The Department of the Environment of the Autonomous Basque Government has registered Abra Terminales Marítimas (ATM), the company that manages the Port of Bilbao Container Terminal, in the EU Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) for complying with all the necessary requisites.
The EMAS is the EU voluntary instrument which acknowledges companies and organisations that improve their environmental performance on a continuous basis.It is applicable to all EU state members and to the European Economic Space.
The specialised container terminal operated by ATM has a surface area of 491,000 m², 1,508 metres berthing with a 21-metre draught. Its cranes can handle vessels with up to 19 containers beam, while productivity can reach 35 movements / per hour per dockside crane. The terminal also offers consolidation / deconsolidation services, both Customs and non-Customs warehousing and over 1000 electric plugs for reefer containers.
In addition, ATM loads or unloads some 35 trains weekly from its own rail terminal.
