At its meeting today, the Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Bilbao approved a concession to Diesel Energy for the building of what will be the third bio-diesel plant in the Port of Bilbao.
This plant will be operative in 2010 and investment is estimated at 33.3 million euros. The installations, which are to occupy 20,500 square metres of land on the slope of Mount Serantes, will have a yearly 150,000-tonne output capacity, and will contribute an annual minimum of 180,000 tonnes of traffic to the Port.
Diesel Energy is a company belonging to the Capital Energy Group that specialises in creating energy production plants using renewable sources.
In recent years, several companies have shown interest in producing bio-diesel in the Port of Bilbao. At the present moment, there are two projects under construction - those of Biocombustibles de Zierbena and Bunge Ibérica. The Diesel Energy plant will be the third. It is also scheduled for Petronor, whose project is pending environment integration authorisation and environmental impact assessment before definitive approval, to build a fourth.
