More calls for Bilbao for the 2010 cruise season after Seatrade Miami

One year more, the Bilbao Port Authority attended the Miami Seatrade Cruise Convention, the most important of its kind in the world, in order to present the wide tourist offer of the region and the Ports’s excellent cruise facilities. The Basque Country gastronomy and its varied cultural offer, as always, proved to rouse most interest.

The Port’s representatives held meetings with major cruise companies and tour operators. As a result, new calls have been confirmed for the 2010 season.

In addition, our representatives attended the annual meeting of the 110 members of the Cruise Europe Association and the promotional events organized to present the Cruise Atlantic Europe Project, an initiative involving five countries and seven European ports besides Bilbao to develop a specific cruise route .

Thus, the Port of Bilbao is reinforcing its commercial efforts to became a cruise base port with the view to extending calls beyond one day, which will bring more benefits for the region.

This year, some thirty cruise vessels with a capacity for almost 35,000 passengers will call at the Port of Bilbao. Outstanding among these ships is the Queen Mary 2, which will visit the Basque Country for the first time. Thus Cunard is committing itself yet again to these shores with another of its jewels, after withdrawing the Queen Elizabeth 2, which berthed four times in all at Bilbao in her farewell season.
