On 27 April, the Port of Bilbao cruise vessel terminal at Getxo welcomed the emblematic cruiser, Queen Victoria belonging to the prestigious Cunard company.
The Queen Victoria is 295 metres long with a capacity for almost 2000 passengers as well as 900 crew members on board. The vessel had begun its route at Southampton and arrived at Bilbao at 7.30 hours from Lisbon. It sailed for the French port of Brest at 16.30 hours.
It is the fifth cruise vessel to berth at the Port of Bilbao so far this year. In 2010, some thirty such vessels are expected to arrive – a figure which consolidates Bilbao as one of the main
Ports on the Cantabrian in this sector. In fact, on this coast, Bilbao is the port making most investment in infrastructures and commercial promotion.
The Queen Victoria was the only emblematic Cunard cruiser not to have visited Euskadi (the autonomous Basque Country). Previously, the Queen Elizabeth 2, already re-converted into a floating luxury hotel in Dubai, and the Queen Mary 2 had already berthed here.
It has twelve decks and 1000 staterooms including 865 with exterior views. In the opinion of the company’s management, the Queen Victoria personifies Cunard: modern and distinguished with an atmosphere bringing to mind the golden age of cruise vessels. Luxury marble and timber exude elegance, while thick carpets, fine fabrics and exquisitely designed furnishings guarantee maximum comfort. When embarking, passengers enter a great three-storeyed hall with a magnificent staircase.
Among other facilities, the vessel has three swimming pools, jacuzzis, a spa and fitness centre, a wooden-floored winter garden and conservatory filled with greenery, a library containing over 6000 titles, a cinema and a theatre with three floors and private boxes.
